About the role

Seeking Senior Engineering services focused on IDEs such as PHPStorm, RubyMine, or core plugins within the JetBrains ecosystem. The scope of cooperation involves implementing new features, maintaining clean and testable code, reviewing contributions, and collaborating with a passionate team. This engagement offers strategic opportunities for influencing the plugin’s or IDE’s direction and improving the overall experience for millions of developers worldwide.

IDE's Development & Optimization

The project focuses on building and enhancing IDEs and core plugins within the JetBrains platform, powering renowned tools such as IntelliJ, PyCharm, GoLand, PHPStorm, RubyMine, and more. The scope of services involves implementing advanced support for technologies and languages including PHP, Ruby, Scala, Bazel, or Kotlin by deep integration with their respective ecosystems. The ultimate objective is delivering stable, high-quality tools that optimize the daily workflows of developers globally.

Tech stack

Kotlin, Java, Kotlin Coroutines, technology specific to the IDE/Plugin (e.g Ruby for RubyMind)

Project Team Composition

The core engineering team consists of senior-level experts focused on specific JetBrains IDEs or plugins, utilizing Kotlin as the primary language. The delivery process involves close collaboration with external contributors and open-source users to ensure the highest stability of developer tools.

Required Professional Competencies

  • 5+ years of commercial experience in Kotlin development and architecture.

  • Strong expertise in concurrency, with a preferred focus on Kotlin Coroutines.

  • Proven track record in extending IDEs or developing within GUI Java frameworks.

  • Hands-on experience with compilers or code analysis tools (highly valued asset).

  • Proficiency in English (B2 level or higher) for seamless technical documentation and communication.

  • Demonstrated alignment with advancing developer tools and contributing to open-source software ecosystems.
